Maintaining Mature Locs

The mature stage of locs could begin as early as 1 year after beginning your journey depending upon the texture of your hair. However, if you're over a year in and you don't feel your locs are fully developed yet, no worries! Looser hair textures often take longer to reach this stage.

Mature locs require much less maintenance than starter or budding locs, and the Nappy Sanctuary will be your home away from home when it comes time to polish that sophisticated, battle-tested nappy crown.

I recommend a deep cleanse every 3 months - 6 months for mature locs, but unless your hair is super dirty, I wouldn’t do it more than twice a year. Overdoing it can loosen up your locs.

A deep cleanse helps to remove anything that has gotten stuck in your dreads over time, such as dirt and dust. Running through the hair with cold water and applying my homemade Nappy Magic  products during the wash and once the locs are mostly dry, your crown will look as healthy as ever.
